When I was younger, I worked summers at a camp for children and adults with varying abilities. It was during that time that I fell in love with helping people. That experience of helping others explore, create, and grow, took me from Lethbridge, AB to Acadia University in Wolfville, NS to pursue a Bachelor of Music Therapy. To become a Certified Music Therapist (MTA) in Canada, one must complete a 1000 hour internship. After completing my music therapy internship in Charlottetown, PE at Catholic Family Services Bureau (CFSB) under the supervision of Peter Mutch, I chose to make Prince Edward Island my home. Working with people within a community that I love has helped me find even more passion in the helping profession. I worked at CFSB for nine years and it was some of the most important work I have ever done. I enjoy working with other health professionals and am continuously working on and building my clinical skill base.
In 2016, I made the decision to go back to school to increase my scope of practice and abilities to help support those in my community. Completing my Master in Counselling through the University of Lethbridge, part-time while I continued to work full-time, was challenging but it opened up a new world of possibilities. I completed a 300 hour practicum placement at the Provincial Palliative Care Unit under the supervision on Blanche Ward. This placement allowed me to work with individuals and families during some of their most difficult times. I am excited to take these skills with me as a continue my work as a therapist with children, individuals, and families. I feel very fortunate that I found this profession where I am constantly seeing the wonderful capacities of the human spirit.
I feel such privilege and honour in working with others and hearing their stories. Working together with individuals to help them grow is something that I value. I want to continue to develop my skills and grow in my abilities to help others. It is my hope that I can continue to support people within my community for many years to come.
